Server colocation project at Viettel IDC Hoa Lac, Viettel IDC Hoang Hoa Tham and Viettel IDC Binh Duong

Viettel’s Hoa Lac Data Center is the largest in Vietnam by total investment scale, featuring a 21,000 m² floor area, 30 MW of power capacity, and room for 2,400 server racks.DC1

Viettel’s Data Center is located in the Hòa Lạc High-Tech Park, adjacent to the Group’s manufacturing facilities. This location was chosen after meeting eight stringent criteria for a world-class data center: Economic and political hub, Seismic and flood risk avoidance, High-capacity network connectivity and transmission. Reliable power-infrastructure readiness, Convenient transportation access, Favorable environmental and climatic conditions, Incentive-driven government policies, Compliance with international standards and certificationsDC4

Viettel’s Data Center spans eight floors with a total floor area of 21,000 m² — twice the size of the largest data center currently in operation in Vietnam. Floor 1: Main lobby, medium-voltage rooms, transformer substation, and backup generator systems; Floor 2: Centralized operations center, synchronization switchgear, ATS cabinets, and power distribution to the IT server-room floors; Floors 3–6 & half of Floor 7: Server rooms and UPS & battery banks; Remaining half of Floor 7 & rooftop: Chiller-based water-cooling system for the data center.

Viettel’s Data Center has 2,400 racks and a 30 MW power capacity; not only is it the largest and most advanced data center in Vietnam to date, but the Viettel Hoa Lac facility is also designed and deployed to support high‐performance computing systems such as AI and Big Data.

Notably, Viettel’s Data Center features a dedicated zone for customers requiring high-power-density rack installations to support high-performance computing and AI workloads, with solutions capable of delivering 20–40 kW per rack. This area enables flexible, rapid deployment to meet client demands and is outfitted with Vertiv’s U.S.-made power and cooling equipment, the world’s leading data-center infrastructure provider.

On the second floor is the Network Operations Center (NOC) – the central hub for managing, operating and monitoring every system within the HiTechCloud & Pho Tue SoftWare Solutions JSC Data Center. All equipment and subsystems are integrated and centrally supervised in the NOC; it operates 24/7 under a three-tier support model: Tier 1 handles real-time monitoring and incident response, Tier 2 conducts maintenance, parameter synchronization and issue tracking, and Tier 3 consists of lead engineers and specialists performing system design, optimization and deep analysis; AI is deeply embedded for threat detection, environmental temperature analysis to optimize rack cooling, and dynamic load balancing across racks, allowing the NOC to maintain peak efficiency with a lean on-duty team.

HiTechCloud & Pho Tue Software Solutions JSC Data Center includes three separate generator rooms, each capable of deploying up to 20 independent generators in 1,800 kW, 2,000 kW, and 2,400 kW modules with flexible redundancy configurations; currently three 1,800 kW units are installed, able to run continuously for up to 72 hours during a power outage by drawing fuel from on-site day tanks and underground reservoirs.

At the HiTechCloud & Pho Tue Software Solutions JSC Data Center, the fuel storage system is engineered to enable continuous refueling while the generators remain online. Our generator units—sourced from Caterpillar (USA), the world’s leading manufacturer of data center power systems—ensure reliable, uninterrupted backup power.

At the HiTechCloud & Pho Tue Software Solutions JSC Data Center, the piping network on each floor is arranged in a ring, then tied into two main distribution headers before converging at the chiller plant on the 8th floor—ensuring sufficient cooling capacity for 100% of IT equipment (servers, networking gear, storage arrays)—and is fully automated to maintain the cold-aisle environment of the rack rows at an optimal 22–26 °C.

The water‐cooling system at the HiTechCloud & Pho Tue Software Solutions JSC Data Center is engineered as a fully integrated solution, employing the most advanced equipment for high efficiency and energy savings, combined with AI‐driven monitoring, management, and intelligent optimization. As a result, the Data Center can operate at a PUE of 1.45–1.5—the highest energy‐usage efficiency achievable in a tropical country like Vietnam. This design has been validated by HSBC Bank as meeting green data‐center criteria, enabling the project to secure a green financing package.

To build this DC, Viettel has applied the most modern technology to meet international certifications and green data centers. Notably, the ANSI/TIA 942-B-2007 Constructed Facility Rated 3 (level 3) certificate on infrastructure construction, in which the Telecommunications/Network System scope alone is certified to reach Rated 4 (level 4). This is the first time a center in Vietnam has been evaluated and certified to reach Rated 4 – the highest level according to international standards for planning, design and construction of data center infrastructure.
